Luxor, Egypt – Valley of Kings Reopens – Dispute Resolved

The villagers of Dra’ abu al Naga and Qurna have ended their peaceful protest after a promised right-off of all outstanding shop rent arrears from the department of Tourism plus an agreed 50% rent discount going forward. The good natured protest is a sign of growing sense of local democracy. The wonderful local sites of Luxor are again open for visitors – a growing number of whom are taking advantage of the pleasures of staying locally in small scale hotels and guesthouses.
